Overview
The Post-Welfare Reform Outcomes for Children of Long-Term Welfare Recipients: The Role of Family Structure project addresses how family structure affects the well-being of children who grow up on welfare. It provides information on four aspects of family structure and the effects on child well-being. Researchers examine existing survey data from the Precarious Families Survey, which includes a sample of 331 children of long-term welfare recipients in two counties in California.
The major research questions include: (1) How does living in a particular family structure affect child well-being? (2) How do transitions between family structure affect children? (3) What is the role of non-custodial father involvement in outcomes? (4) What is the role of family environment in mediating the effects of family structure?
The researchers provide descriptive analyses on how children of long-term welfare recipients are faring and predictive models of child outcomes to analyze the effect of family structure on child well-being.
The project period is 9/29/01-11/31/03 and the point of contact is Nancye Campbell. Ask a Question.
