Registration for this event is free and open to the public. You may register for this event online using ESI's secure registration server by clicking the link below.

Travel Information for General Participants

The Tenth Annual Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference begins promptly at 9:00 am on Monday, June 4, 2007 and adjourns at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2007. The conference will be held in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area at the Hilton Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Virginia.

Please be aware that you are responsible for arranging and covering the cost of your own travel, ground transportation, and hotel accommodations. We have included conference start and end times above as a guideline to assist in your pre-planning for attendance at the conference.

Air Travel

Airports
Three major airports serve the Washington, DC area: Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA), Dulles International (IAD), and Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) airports. The most convenient airport to the conference location is Reagan National, located approximately 1 mile from the conference hotel in Arlington, VA. Dulles airport is located approximately 25 miles from the hotel, and BWI airport is located approximately 45 miles from the hotel.

Airport Security Information
If you are planning to travel by air, remember that heightened security has been implemented at all airports. Please be prepared to furnish e-ticket itineraries and receipts, along with valid government-issued photo identification, upon check-in. Travelers are advised to arrive at the airport 1½ to 2 hours prior to their scheduled departure to ensure ample time to clear security. Also, please keep in mind that check-in procedures and policies vary according to each airport and airline. Upon arrival at the airport, we suggest that you ask airline personnel about specific check-in procedures.

Train Travel

Amtrak service is available into Washington, DC via Union Station. Amtrak is a convenient option for many people who will be traveling from various points along the East Coast. To make Amtrak reservations, call (800) USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak.

Ground Transportation

The Washington, DC area is served by a variety of ground transportation options. Below is a listing of several options for traveling from the airport or train station to the hotel. All fares are one-way and per person unless otherwise specified.

Hotel Shuttle
The Hilton Crystal City offers an on-call complimentary shuttle to/from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and the Crystal City Metro (Yellow Line) to the hotel between the hours of 5:00 am - 11:00 pm. Upon arrival at the airport or Metro, please call the hotel at (703) 418-6800 to request a shuttle pick-up. Air travelers will need to indicate the airline used for travel.

SuperShuttle
Shuttle services also are available to the hotel for approximately $22 from Dulles International Airport (IAD) and $37 from Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI) using the SuperShuttle service. Shuttle reservations can be made by calling (800) BLUE-VAN or via the Internet at SuperShuttle. Reservations are required at least 12 hours in advance.

Taxi
Taxi stands are located at the baggage claim area of all major airports and at the front entrance of Union Station. Approximate fares are as follows: Reagan National - $5; Dulles - $45; BWI - $50; and Union Station - $15.

Metro
The Hilton Crystal City is easily accessible via Washington, DC’s Yellow Line Metro service and is located at the Crystal City Station stop. You can access the Washington National Airport Metro station on the main level of the Ronald Reagan Washington National airport. Complete Metro Rail System map.

For your convenience, a block of rooms has been reserved at a discounted rate for attendees of the Tenth Annual Welfare Research and Evaluation Conference. General participants should contact the Hilton Crystal City at (703) 418-6800 to secure lodging. Please provide the reservation attendant with the group code WEL when making your accommodations to receive the discounted room rate indicated below.

You will be asked to provide a valid credit card number to hold your sleeping room. Please use this opportunity to express your room and bedding preferences. The hotel will assign specific room types upon check-in, based on availability.

The discounted room rate at the hotel is $162 per night for single or double occupancy, plus applicable state and local taxes which are currently 10.25%. This discounted rate only applies to reservations made with the hotel by Wednesday, May 9, 2007. After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space available basis and may be at a significantly higher rate.

Check-in time at the hotel is 3:00 pm and check-out time is 12:00 noon. Should you arrive early, the hotel will make every attempt to accommodate your early check-in. However, if there are no rooms available upon your early arrival, your luggage will be stored until your room is available. Upon check-in you will required to present a valid credit card to cover your accommodations and incidental charges during your stay.

Driving Directions to the Hotel

FROM RICHMOND & I-95 NORTH:
Follow I-95 North to I-395 North. Take Exit #7A (Rt. 120/Glebe Road South). Stay on South Glebe Road approximately 1.5 miles, until it ends on Route 1 North ( Jefferson Davis Highway). Travel approximately 1/2 mile to the traffic light at 23rd Street. Make a right onto 23rd Street and another immediate right onto Clark Street. The Hilton Crystal City is directly on the right.

FROM BALTIMORE & I-95 SOUTH:
Take I-95 South over the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into Virginia. Take Exit 177B for Rt. 1 North in the direction of Arlington/Alexandria. Travel on Rt. 1 North approximately 4 miles, passing through the city of Alexandria. After passing the ramp for Reagan National Airport, take the next right onto 23rd street and another immediate right onto Clark Street. The Hilton Crystal City is directly on the right.

FROM I-395 NORTH:
Take I-395 North in the direction of Washington. Take Exit 7A (Rt. 120/Glebe Road South). Stay on South Glebe Road approximately 1.5 miles, until it ends on Route 1 North ( Jefferson Davis Highway).
