LIRS 2014 World Refugee Day Celebration
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) invites members of our Refugee Alumni Network and former refugees to apply to participate in our 2014 World Refugee Day Celebration in Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC on June 18-20. This annual event is one of the most important times of the year for LIRS to speak with members of Congress about refugee issues. The journey you have taken as a refugee and your success in the United States makes you a leader that we want to have as a part of this influential event.
This year’s celebration is of particular importance because it takes place as part of LIRS’s 75th Anniversary Commemoration. LIRS’s World Refugee Day Celebration activities include the following events: June 18 – Refugee Advocacy Training on Lobbying, June 19 – Lobby visit and Walk of Courage Award Gala, and June 20 – Refugee Advocacy Training on Leadership Development.
If accepted to attend, LIRS will pay for your transportation to and from the event, lodging in a hotel, and all meals during your stay. There is limited space, so please apply today. All former refugees with demonstrated leadership experience will be considered for acceptance. We also encourage those who were resettled as minors or children to apply.
