Orlando, FL World Refugee Day Celebration
Oak Ridge High School - 700 West Oak Ridge Road, Orlando, FL
There will be two components to the celebration: An outdoor Community Fair/Bazaar from 10:00 to 12:00 PM and an indoor Live Cultural Entertainment from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
The Community Fair/Bazaar will consist of various activities: a Health Fair, coordinated by Seminole County Health Department, The Orange County Sheriff Office will have its mounted patrol unit and its Children Safety Village present at the event; Orange County Fire Department will have a fire truck on display offering fire safety tips; "Career Source" will have its mobile unit; Orange County Public Schools will offer information about their Technical Career Programs, School Enrollment Process and Early Childhood Education. Our department has coordinated for on-site assistance with ACCESS/ESS applications for public assistance. Orange County Commissioner Pete Clark's office will attempt to invite some area employers to participate; as well as give out 50 coupons/certificates for his back to school backpacks. There will also be food vendors and community agencies will share information with the public.
The program for the indoor Live Cultural Entertainment is in the works: We have confirmation USCIS will do a Naturalization Ceremony and a local "Colombian Dance Group" will participate. Africans United Council and group from Venezuela are lining up something to represent their culture and CC/CRS staff is working on participation by clients. A workgroup meeting is scheduled for next Thursday to finalize program details.
