The purpose of the NHTRC is to increase the identification and protection of human trafficking victims in the United States by providing callers with a range of services, including crisis intervention; urgent and non-urgent service referrals; tip reporting to appropriate local, State, or Federal law enforcement authorities; and comprehensive resources, training, and technical assistance for the human trafficking field and those who wish to get involved.
The NHTRC is able to connect community members with additional tools to raise awareness and combat human trafficking in their local areas, as well as guide service providers and law enforcement personnel in their work with potential trafficking victims. To perform these functions, the NHTRC maintains a national database of organizations and individuals working in the anti-trafficking field, as well as a library of available anti-trafficking resources and materials. The NHTRC answers calls from anywhere in the United States and U.S. territories, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year. The NHTRC responds to urgent calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. NHTRC staff respond to urgent emails within 12 hours of receipt. The NHTRC responds to non-urgent calls and emails primarily between the hours of 9:00 am and 7:00 pm eastern time, Monday through Friday, within one to three business days of the initial request.
What types of technical assistance and training does the NHTRC offer?
The NHTRC can provide urgent technical assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The NHTRC will respond to requests for non-urgent technical assistance and training within one to three business days of the initial request. Training and technical assistance can include phone consultations, on-site presentations, webinars, site visits, and review of materials.
Training and technical assistance can include, but is not limited to, the following topics: human trafficking 101, child trafficking, victim identification, capacity building, building and maintaining an anti-trafficking coalition, conducting public awareness and outreach activities, creating a local referral protocol, working with law enforcement, history of anti-trafficking field in the United States, available services for trafficking victims, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act and its reauthorizations, and state anti-trafficking laws.
