SUBJECT: 2007 National Refugee Program Consultation

The Office of Refugee Resettlement is hosting its annual National Refugee Program Consultation from January 22-25, 2007 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC. We will celebrate “A New Generation of Refugee Resettlement” as we introduce new ORR personnel, meet new staff from the resettlement community, announce new federal partnerships, highlight innovative programmatic directions, and address some of the recent challenges facing incoming populations. All participants in the Refugee Program are encouraged to attend this annual consultation. Participants will receive invitations within the next few weeks and will be able to register online and review agenda topics.

This consultation will play a key role in increasing coordination and communication between Federal, State, and non-profit partners. As we celebrate over 25 years of refugee resettlement, I look forward to a broad exchange of ideas and information-sharing, regarding issues like refugee health, affordable housing, employment, education, language acquisition, citizenship, self sufficiency, and integration.

As an important leader in the resettlement community, I know you want to keep abreast of the latest developments regarding issues impacting your program. I strongly encourage you and your staff to attend this consultation, so that you may share your program successes, challenges, ideas, and questions with me and other colleagues involved in resettlement. I hope you will mark your calendars and begin your planning to attend this important event.

I look forward to seeing you in January, 2007.
