Rise Up! Poetry, Workshops, Violence Prevention Education

North American Indian Center of Boston - Jamaica Plain, MA

We invite you to the North American Indian Center of Boston, 105 South Huntington Ave, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 for an afternoon of workshops on violence prevention, poetry as activism and Indigenous health; and an evening Open Mic on HIV/AIDS awareness, featuring:

Opening and Closing Songs by Jennifer Kreisberg (Tuscarora, North Carolina)
Tanaya Winder (Southern Ute, Duckwater Shoshone, Pyramid Lake Pauite)
Cheryl Savageau (Abenaki)
Mikhu Paul (Waponaki)

Dinner will be provided and there will be community organizations tabling and providing informational materials. There will also be free rapid HIV and Hepatitis C testing on site!

RISE UP! - A Celebration of Life educates and promotes awareness of critical issues facing indigenous (Native American) women, girls, children and men including domestic and sexual violence, human sex trafficking, and HIV/AIDS. Through "RISE UP! Boston" this coming March 7th and 8th that features film screenings and discussions, workshops, performance and Open Mic/Speak Outs we seek to build a foundation for a New England wide network of support for women and girls, for survivors of violence, and of activists and advocates working to interrupt and eliminate domestic and sexual violence, and human trafficking: www.gedakina.org
