Winners announced in the Let’s Move! Child Care State Challenge

The First Lady’s Let’s Move! Child Care (LMCC) initiative recently announced winners in the LMCC State Challenge.  The nationwide competition was launched by ACF and the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) to reach more early education and child care providers and encourage state participation in the LMCC initiative.  Winners were recognized for their exceptional efforts to promote healthy lifestyles.  LMCC focuses on five goals in early education and child care programs: (1) increase physical activity, (2) reduce screen time, (3) improve food choices, (4) offer healthier beverages, and (5) support infant feeding.

Rhode Island received national recognition as a State Challenge winner for having the highest percentage of licensed or legally operating early education and child care programs signed up as LMCC participants.  In addition to the State Challenge winners, 18 providers were recognized for participating in LMCC and making improvements in early care and education programs promoting young children’s health and preventing childhood obesity.  The West Haven Child Development Center in West Haven, CT was one of the honored providers.
