This three-day conference will focus on mental health and well-being in Early Head Start, including support for the social-emotional development of infants and toddlers; parent and family mental health; strategies for working effectively with families; and supports to enhance staff mental health and wellness. The keynote presentation will be given by Dr. Jack Shonkoff, the Julius B. Richmond FAMRI Professor of Child Health and Development at the Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Graduate School of Education, and founding director of the Center on the Developing Child.

Promoting Social & Emotional Competence in Young Children
This event will train grantee teams using the training modules developed by the Center for Social and Emotional Foundations in Early Learning, funded in major part by the Office of Head Start. The modules are based on the four levels of the Teaching Pyramid: building positive relationships, creating supportive environments, implementing social and emotional teaching strategies, and providing intensive intervention when necessary. This is a four-day training, to be delivered in 2 separate two-day sessions. Part 1 will address the first two levels of the pyramid: relationships and environments. Presented by the UMass Donahue Institute, Head Start Quality Initiative.

New trends in outdoor play and its learning benefits will be blended with ways that grantees can take action to assure compliance with the standards for safety and accessibility for outdoor play areas.
