2008 CDC Recommended Childhood and Adolescent Immunization Schedule

The Schedules lists the ages (birth through 6 years old and 7 through 18 years old) for when each vaccine or series of shots is to be given. If your child or adolescent has missed any shots, consult the catch-up schedule AND check with your doctor about getting back on track.

Campaign to Promote Greater Awareness of Early Child Development

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in collaboration with a coalition of national partners, recently launched a public awareness campaign to help parents learn more about the importance of measuring their child's social and emotional progress in the first few years of life. The campaign, "Learn the Signs. Act Early," is designed to educate parents about early childhood development, including potential early warning signs of autism and other developmental disabilities.

CDC Fruits and Veggies Matter Website

The website features a tool in which consumers can determine how many fruits and vegetables they need daily based on their age, sex and activity level. Health professionals can find examples of what a cup and a half cup of fruits and vegetables looks like, as well as helpful tips for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. The recipe database contains over 600 healthy recipes which each contain at least one 1/2 cup serving of fruit or vegetables. The health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables are also presented.

The Department of Health and Human Services Child Care Bureau has launched the "Fit Source" website. This interactive site, for child care and after school providers, lists resources to help address the nation's childhood obesity epidemic. The site allows providers and others to easily search for a variety of physical activity and nutrition resources by age, topic, and keywords. Providers will find: games and activities, lesson plans, health recipes, information for parents, fitness campaigns and other information.
