Child Welfare

Program Overview

The Child Welfare program provides funding for States and tribes to deliver services designed to protect children and strengthen families. These services include child protective services (child abuse and neglect) family preservation and support, foster care, adoption and independent living.

John H. Chafee Foster Care Independence Program

The Chafee Foster Care Independence Program ensures that young people involved in the foster care system receive services and support which will enable them to successfully transition to independent living.

Region 10 staff:

  • Provide support and training and technical assistance to partners in the State, Tribal and Community Child Welfare Systems
  • Conduct and report on Child and Family Services reviews with state partners. These reviews measure compliance with federal regulations and provide information that the states may use in developing program improvement plans.
