Faith-Based Initiative

President George W. Bush's Faith-Based and Community Initiative represents a new approach to government's role in helping those in need. President Bush, through Executive Orders, established the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and the seven Department Centers for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives to reduce bureaucratic barriers and help grassroot organizations compete equally for federal dollars, and support the essential work that faith-based and community organizations do in our communities.

The HHS Center leads the Department's efforts to better utilize faith-based and community-based organizations in providing effective human services. To learn more about the Department’s activities, visit the HHS Center at www.os.hhs.gov/fbci/. Within the Administration for Children and Families, faith-based and community-based organizations are valued and essential partners in assisting children and families in need. Our Compassion Capital Fund helps faith-based and community organizations increase their effectiveness and enhance their ability to provide social services to serve those most in need. The Compassion Capital Fund administers two grant programs: the Demonstration Program and the Targeted Capacity Building Program.
