Child Support Fact Sheets

The Office of Child Support launched the first six in a series of fact sheets, titled “Child Support Health Care Connections,” to offer information about the Affordable Care Act geared to the child support community.

Fact Sheet #1: How do people apply for coverage and enroll in a health plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace?
The Healthcare.gov customer service center was launched in June 2013. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is accessible by telephone (1-800-318-2596, TTY 1-855889-4325) or by live online chat. Trained customer service representatives are available in 150 languages.

Fact Sheet #2: What kinds of assistance will be available to help consumers apply for and enroll in coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace?
Some states are setting up a State-based Marketplace, other states will work with the federal government in a State Partnership Marketplace, and the remaining states will have a Federally-facilitated Marketplace.

Fact Sheet #3: How are state Health Insurance Marketplaces being established?
No matter where they live, consumers will be able to compare their health insurance options in the Marketplace and find a health plan that meets their needs and budget in October of 2013.

Fact Sheet #4: What does the application for the Health Insurance Marketplace look like?
The Health Insurance Marketplace will give consumers one destination to apply for coverage and many resources to get help.

Fact Sheet #5: What is the individual shared responsibility provision in the Affordable Care Act?
Under the Affordable Care Act, the federal government, state governments, insurers, employers, and individuals are given shared responsibility to reform and improve the availability, quality, and affordability of health insurance coverage in the United States.

Fact Sheet #6: Where can I learn more about the Health Insurance Marketplace and other important provisions of the Affordable Care Act?
Several helpful websites provide official information about the Affordable Care Act, including policy guidance, training and technical assistance materials, funding opportunity announcements, frequently asked questions, links to state resources, and tools for consumers to learn about new health care coverage options and enroll.
