Houston Grantee and Community Roundtable

On March 8, 2013, we partnered with MD Anderson Dorothy I. Height Center and Karen Chapman Edutainment to host a Grantee and Community Roundtable:  Strengthening Families using Best Practices in a Culturally Competent Way, in Houston, TX.  The Roundtable focused on program sustainability, underserved populations, collaborations and partnerships, and asset building.  Nearly 70 local grantees, faith-based and community organizations, and local, state, and federal governments participated in the Roundtable.  Reverend Bill Lawson, Principal of William A Lawson Institute for Peace and Prosperity, provided inspiring plenary remarks on the importance of family, marriage, and fatherhood which set an excellent foundation for the presentations throughout the day on the Affordable Care Act, asset building, fatherhood and marriage, using multimedia, and services for veterans.  Dr. Lovell Jones, Director of DH-CHEER, is pictured here.  Dr. Jones and Karen Chatman, Founder of Karen Chatman Edutainment, provided a unique presentation on Using Multimedia for Collaboration, Innovation, and Integration.   Participants were able to network with other practitioners and received special remarks from Diann Dawson, President of DVA & Associates and Former Director or ORO ACF, about partnerships and family strengthening.
