Week of the Young Child

The Week of the Young Child (WOYC) is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

To recognize and celebrate WOYC, Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27, 2012, the ACF Region VI Office of Child Care (OCC) coordinated efforts with the Office of Head Start (OHS). Together, OCC and OHS arranged a display in the atrium of the HHS Region VI Building, located at 1301 Young Street.  Information describing the services offered by these two ACF administered early care and education programs along with other brochures and publications supporting quality for children in out of home care were available for HHS building employees.  Donations of early childhood supplies were accepted. The items received included: Leap Frog learning pad with cartridges, books, various art supplies, and age and developmentally appropriate toys.  These items will be donated to a local child care center that sustained damage during the April tornados in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
