Guest Speaker Larry Burd Discusses Fetal Alcohol Syndrom
On Friday, September 7th, ACF Region 8 hosted Larry J. Burd, Ph.D. to speak on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Dr. Burd spoke on how to recognize prenatal alcohol exposure, how professionals miss intervention opportunities, how programs miss the mark when working with people with FASD, how programs could be improved to address the needs of people with FASD, and prevention strategies. Dr. Burd also introduced intuitive evaluation tools that can be used with parents. Staff from all Regional Offices were invited to attend via videoconference, and staff from across HHS Region 8 were invited to attend in person.

Larry Burd is the Director of the North Dakota Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Center and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Burd's research encompasses areas such as Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Autism, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and Smoking Prevention in Schools.
