During National Recovery Month this September, ACF recognizes the importance of prevention and treatment for mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders and celebrates the providers, community members, children, and families who work together to show that recovery is for everyone.
September is Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month (NPM) is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time. This year's theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”
Natural disasters send our communities into turmoil, and we have seen the particularly devastating toll they take on disadvantaged, low-income communities and people of color. Beyond the physical damage done by natural disasters, they also take an emotional toll on their victims, from the pain of losing a loved one to the pressure caused by financial setbacks. We must all do our part to prepare and better protect ourselves and our communities against both immediate crises and their residual effects.
