In honor of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, let’s work toward a future where families are supported and every child grows up safe, nurtured, and loved.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month
Child abuse and neglect is a national issue that affects us all. Children who are abused or neglected experience a lifelong psychological, emotional, and physical impact. The consequences of child abuse and neglect ripple across the lifespan, negatively affecting a child’s chances to succeed in school, work, and relationships.
Every April, we recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month (NCAPM) and highlight the importance of communities working together to support families and prevent child maltreatment. It is crucial for communities to promote awareness of child and family well-being throughout the year and come together to implement effective strategies that help families thrive and prevent child abuse and neglect.
This year's theme, Doing Things Differently: Moving From the Challenge to the Change, emphasizes the importance of going beyond our usual responses to the challenges faced by families and those in the child welfare field. Instead, let's take courageous steps to break free from the norm and explore creative strategies to overcome these obstacles and create lasting change.
This month, we share information not only to increase awareness, but to promote ways in which individuals and communities can take direct actions to support parents or caregivers with accessing critical services and resources and increase the likelihood that children will grow up with safe, stable, and nurturing relationships that help them thrive.
We encourage you to show your support for #ThrivingFamilies.
