Celebrating Public Service Recognition Week

2023 Public Service Recognition Week

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is honoring its committed staff during Public Service Recognition Week, May 7-13. Celebrated since 1985, PSRW is a nationwide campaign honoring the individuals who serve our nation as federal, state, county, local and tribal government employees. Each year the President and Congress designate the first full week of May (May 7—13, 2023) as PSRW, and activities are held in celebration of public servants who dedicate their careers to making a difference across the country. This week especially, ACF will celebrate and highlight its staff’s significant contributions and meaningful impact through celebratory events and communications.

“I have treasured the privilege of working with our team members — our ACF family — to carry out our incredible mission,” said Assistant Secretary January Contreras. “Every day, every single person at ACF has the opportunity to make a difference in the life of someone, and I honor and thank them for choosing public service. I hope our partners will also take a moment to thank the ACF employees they work with to carry out our shared mission.”

In 2023, ACF continues to strategize about new ways to help families. They are driven by a set of eight priorities to support overarching values such as equity, prevention, and whole family approaches as laid out in the ACF Strategic Plan. The work is designed to support families in ways that empower them not only to survive challenging times but to thrive.

ACF was created on April 15, 1991. The mission of ACF is to strengthen the well-being of families, children, individuals, and communities with funding, strategic partnerships, guidance, training, and technical assistance. ACF is the largest federal entity delivering human service programs.
