Team-Lead Program Specialist at the Administration for Native Americans (Contractor)
Young Brinson is the Team-Lead Program Specialist at the Administration for Native Americans (Contractor). In this position, her daily tasks center around monitoring and evaluating the programmatic and financial progress of 17 discretionary grants in our Alaska Region. She also serves as the ERE FOA drafter and is a member of the I-LEAD team as well as participates on the Language Think Tank among many other workgroups. Policy and self-determination are core aspects of Young’s life.
Prior to ANA, Young was a high school Biology and Psychology teacher for four years who consistently infused her lessons with a cultural focus in both Oklahoma and Washington D.C. She holds a B.A. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from the University of Richmond and an M.L.S. in Tribal Law from the University of Oklahoma, Norman School of Law.
She is of Nansemond, Mattaponi, and Nottoway descent and is heavily involved in the Virginia Indian community. She participates as the Secretary and one of the Nansemond Indian Nation representatives for the Tsenacommacah Language Project, a Virginia inter-tribal group focused on revitalizing the Virginia Algonquin language.
