This edition of the ANA Messenger highlights projects focused on language and culture. It is very important to preserve and maintain languages throughout the Tribal community. Language connects people to their ancestors, spirituality, and culture and provides a better sense of who they are.
This presentation begins with the definition of immersion and then walks through the different techniques including Total Physical Response (TPR), TPR Storytelling, example lesson plans, and the teaching differences between child and adult immersion.
Presenters from several language programs based in urban centers across the U.S. share how they are maintaining the ties between Natives living outside of their communities by encouraging native language learning.
