Social and Economic Development Strategies - Alaska (SEDS-AK)

Grantee: Ahtna Heritage Foundation
Project Description: The goal of this project is to keep the Ahtna Athabascan culture alive with traditional dance and songs passed from the Elders to their youth, so that their heritage is passed on to the future generations of the community. The Ahtna community is in danger of losing their Elders at a rapid rate, with their culture being at risk of extinction.  Fewer than 30 Ahtna Elders remain, that can speak the language. This project will help ensure the language, dance, and songs, continue into the future which serve as critical components to the Ahtna way of life.
