How did your project come about – how was it determined?
The goal to increase tribal member access to traditional activities was based on the results of a survey of tribal members.

Who were instrumental in the development of the project?
The tribal members and project staff were instrumental.

How did you address bringing together (synthesizing) ideas?
We used questionnaires, surveys, and meetings.

What are your main project objectives/ goals of your project?
To increase tribal member access to traditional cultural arts through research, workshops, and development of cultural art mentors.

How has your project benefited the community overall (impact)?
Now 25% of the tribal members are participating in traditional cultural art activities, many of whom had not previously engaged with their culture. There is a renewed interest in several traditional cultural arts with elders and youth playing a major role.

What are your future plans to continue your efforts?
We will continue to offer education and workshops related to cultural arts that are traditional to the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians.

What advice would you offer to someone planning or implementing a project similar to yours?
Engage your constituents early and often to understand their needs and to ensure your project activities are meeting those needs. Set meaningful and realistic goals and success indicators.
