RE: National Financial Capability Month - April 2015
ATTACHMENT: Information and Resources Related to Financial Capability (PDF)
Dear Colleague:
April is National Financial Capability Month. We take this opportunity to encourage wide dissemination and use of the information and resources in the attached document, which is being issued as a collective ACF effort to promote financial capability across all programs. It provides background on financial capability, key resources from ACF, valuable tools from other federal partners, and child support specific information and resources.
Financial capability is a term that expands upon financial literacy, emphasizing that knowledge, skills, capacity, and access to financial services are the necessary combination to build and manage financial resources effectively. Developing financial capability is critical to improving outcomes for families in the child support program and essential to achieving economic stability.
This resource offers information and tools that can help both parents plan, budget, save, and manage money in order to make reliable support payments and effectively use the payments they receive. Promoting financial capability is an important practice to help families improve their financial well-being and meet the goals of the child support program.
Attaining financial capability has far-reaching impact on the economic health of families, communities, and our country, as expressed in the Presidential Proclamation
that declares April 2015 as National Financial Capability Month.
I hope this information is helpful to you as you work with families in your communities. I encourage you to share these resources throughout your agency, particularly those working directly with parents who need and will welcome this support for their efforts to meet their financial responsibilities.
Sincerely,
Vicki Turetsky
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
