The Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) is the primary federal funding source dedicated to providing immediate shelter and supportive services for victims of family violence, domestic violence, or dating violence and their dependents. Of the $129,546,700 appropriated to FVPSA in 2012, $12,931,071 in FVPSA formula grants were distributed based on population to 227 Tribes in 26 states. Local tribal domestic violence programs served 40,213 victims of domestic violence and their children in 2011. This is 2.5% of all the clients served by FVPSA-funded programs. Ninety-two percent (92%) of the adults served were female and eight percent (8%) were male.
