February is national Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. FYSB’s Family Violence Prevention and Services Program is proud to support the many events hosted by our grantees and partners this year by presenting public awareness campaigns, webinars, social media events, and radio shows that highlight healthy relationships. Supporting LGBTQ Youth Experiencing Dating Violence This interactive webinar examines the strengths and challenges of the domestic violence movement’s response to serving young people experiencing violence by focusing on understanding and addressing barriers to working with youth under the age of 18 and the needs and experiences of LGBTQ youth. It will also explore how domestic and sexual violence movements can meet the unique needs of young people experiencing dating and domestic violence. |

LGBTQ Youth Healthy Relationships This webinar will address innovative approaches to working with LGBTQ youth to build healthy relationships and communities. Participants will learn about Love+, a domestic and sexual violence prevention project that works with young people to build violence prevention messages. They will also explore what peer educators can do to support LGBTQ youth and envision a world where all people can have access to loving, equitable relationships and communities. For Your Own Good? Rethinking Mandatory Reporting Practices For many youth, the first thing they are told when they reach out to a service provider is: "If you tell me about violence, I will have to make a mandatory report to Child Protective Services (CPS) or the police." This statement can silence, confuse, or intimidate young people experiencing harm or abuse. Such responses can unintentionally communicate, "There is no one you can talk to about your experiences…you’re alone." |

Love is Setting Boundaries Throughout the month, loveisrespect will raise awareness about teen dating violence and provide tools and education around building healthy relationships with a focus on 2016’s theme: “Love is Setting Boundaries.” A series of blogs will be posted that range in topic from defining boundaries, understanding their importance, and respecting a partner’s boundaries. The Runaway & Homeless Youth Relationship Violence Toolkit Recently updated in November 2015, this toolkit was developed by and for advocates in the runaway and homeless youth (RHY) and domestic and sexual assault (DV/SA) fields to help programs better address relationship violence with runaway and homeless youth. The toolkit, a collaborative project funded by FYSB, offers information, resources, tips, and tools drawn from both the RHY and DV/SA systems. DV/SA advocates will find resources designed to enhance their understanding of homeless youth and the network of programs that exist to assist them. RHY providers will find useful information on intimate partner violence and supportive programing for youth. |

Preventing and Responding to Teen Dating Violence Updated for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month 2016, NRCDV will present a special collection emphasizing collaborative and multi-level approaches to the prevention of and response to teen dating violence. Drawing on the work of many organizations, this collection provides general information about teen dating violence, as well as resources for different populations, including; 1) young people, 2) parents and caregivers, 3) men and boys, 4) teachers and school-based professionals, 5) health care professionals, 6) pregnancy prevention programs, and 7) domestic violence and sexual violence service providers. |
