Children’s Bureau announces the approval of the District of Columbia's Child and Family Services Agency Title IV-E Prevention Program Five-Year Plan: “Putting Families First in DC” as the country's first Family First Prevention Plan under the Family First Prevention Services Act.

National annual foster care and adoption data show the number of children in foster care, although still very high, dropped for the first year since 2011. The number of children achieving permanency through adoption increased for the fourth year in a row to its highest level ever. And the number of children entering foster care dropped for the second year in a row after going up every year since 2013.

Today, the Children’s Bureau within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration on Children, Youth and Families, announced the first year of a five year award of nearly $25 million to nine community-based projects to help prevent child maltreatment and reduce entries into foster care.

Today, the Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) at HHS’ Administration for Children and Families publishes an information memorandum encouraging state and tribal child support agencies to consider applying for a funding and regulatory waiver to help create employment services for noncustodial parents struggling to make child support payments due to unemployment or underemployment.
