Children’s Bureau announces the approval of the District of Columbia's Child and Family Services Agency Title IV-E Prevention Program Five-Year Plan: “Putting Families First in DC” as the country's first Family First Prevention Plan under the Family First Prevention Services Act.

National annual foster care and adoption data show the number of children in foster care, although still very high, dropped for the first year since 2011. The number of children achieving permanency through adoption increased for the fourth year in a row to its highest level ever. And the number of children entering foster care dropped for the second year in a row after going up every year since 2013.

Jonathan H. Hayes served as the director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in the Administration for Children & Families at the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services from February 2019 to March 2020. Today, the Children’s Bureau within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration on Children, Youth and Families, announced the first year of a five year award of nearly $25 million to nine community-based projects to help prevent child maltreatment and reduce entries into foster care.

HHS’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF) today issued guidance to state Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) agencies regarding the reimbursement obligations of sponsors of non-citizens and procedures for recovering TANF funds from non-citizen sponsors.
