What/When is Child Abuse Prevention Month?

Child Welfare
Child Abuse and Neglect

National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families. During the month of April and throughout the year, communities are encouraged to increase awareness and provide education and support to families through resources and strategies to prevent child abuse and neglect. Child Welfare Information Gateway, a service of the Children's Bureau, offers a National Child Abuse Prevention Month website that highlights resources for protecting children and strengthening families, vignettes and videos from national prevention organizations, publications focused on preventing maltreatment, and a Resource Guide that includes tip sheets for parents and caregivers in English and Spanish.
