What is National Foster Care Month? When is it?
Answer
May is National Foster Care Month (NFCM), a time to recognize that we can each play a part in enhancing the lives of children and youth in foster care. Since 1988, U.S. Presidents have issued annual proclamations in recognition of NFCM to show appreciation and gratitude to foster parents across the Nation.
The purpose of NFCM continues to evolve based on the needs of the time. Today, the Children's Bureau, together with Child Welfare Information Gateway and other partner organizations, supports NFCM through a website that provides information, resources, personal stories, and outreach tools to engage child welfare professionals and community members in raising awareness. Visit the NFCM website for more information about current activities and the Children's Bureau's commitment to strengthening the capacity of families to nurture and provide for their child's well-being.
