This presentation provides an overview of web services, how they use different types of patterns, and their purpose in effectively exchanging data in real time between heterogeneous systems. The presentation introduces the concept of service-oriented architecture using web services and how these web services can be used to integrate diverse repositories of data as well as to create efficient solutions for sharing and accessing data across the enterprise.

In this presentation, the Children's Bureau hosted a state panel discussion on building and maintaining data exchanges between education and child welfare information systems. This discussion included a description and background of the data exchanges for Kentucky, New York, New York City, and Wisconsin. Topics discussed included data security and use, maintaining and enhancing the data exchange, and lessons learned.

This DSS presentation is the first in a two-part series on CCWIS cost allocation and the difference between CCWIS and non-CCWIS cost allocation.  It provides an overview of cost allocation and CCWIS Technical Bulletin #5.  The webinar also explains the CCWIS Automated Function Checklist and its use for cost allocation.

Our webinar, "From Waterfall to Agile: Managing Cultural Change and Impacts Across Stakeholder Groups," presents the experience of several states in implementing the Agile methodology and the various impacts on stakeholder groups.

This presentation highlights how data from the SACWIS is transformed into usable information by the West Virginia Bureau for Children and Families (BCF).

The Children's Bureau Data Analytics and Reporting Team held their final AFCARS Open Office Hours for 2023. These sessions are for state and tribal program administrators, child welfare data leaders, and information system programmers. It provides an opportunity to ask questions specific to your agency's implementation of AFCARS 2020. The April session covered questions and answers, as well as updates from NCWDMS.

This webinar, featuring Terry Watt (Director, Division of State Systems), Nicole Harter-Shafer (Federal Analyst, Division of State Systems), and Nick Gompper (contracted technology specialist), provided technical assistance about cloud service computing models.  The webinar distinguished between Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service, and Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) solutions and the webinar included items to consider when evaluating solutions for a specific title IV-E agency need.  In addition, Terry Watt and Nicole Harter-Shafer provided technical assistance about selecting a solution, when to use a COTS waiver, and sole-source justification.  The webinar included several question and answer sessions throughout the presentation.

This webinar, sponsored by the Children’s Bureau’s Division of State Systems, addresses transition planning for the migration of powers, duties, tasks, and activities from the Statewide Automated Child Welfare Information System implementation vendor to state ownership and management as an active project ends.

Through the webinar series, “Back to Basics”, the Division of State Systems within the Children’s Bureau, is offering a venue for information sharing and discussion. The fourth webinar of the series, “Common Pitfalls and How to Avoid Them”, reviews nine common pitfalls associated with building and maintaining child welfare information systems including: lack of user involvement; poorly defined requirements; scope creep, lack of a change control system, poor testing, under-allocated resources, system performance issues, lack of a high-functioning user help desk and poor vendor relationship.
