This webinar, featuring Terry Watt (Director, Division of State Systems), Nicole Harter-Shafer (Federal Analyst, Division of State Systems), and Nick Gompper (contracted technology specialist), provided technical assistance about cloud service computing models.  The webinar distinguished between Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, Software-as-a-Service, and Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) solutions and the webinar included items to consider when evaluating solutions for a specific title IV-E agency need.  In addition, Terry Watt and Nicole Harter-Shafer provided technical assistance about selecting a solution, when to use a COTS waiver, and sole-source justification.  The webinar included several question and answer sessions throughout the presentation.

 

The Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) authorized new optional title IV-E funding for certain time-limited prevention services through creation of the title IV-E prevention program. The Children’s Bureau hosted a webinar to provide an update on the implementation of the title IV-E prevention program and to assist title IV-E agencies and their partners developing prevention plans in their jurisdictions.

This webinar described Idaho's and Arizona's experiences implementing child welfare information systems using Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) cloud computing. The state panelists shared their experiences and took questions from participants regarding their state solution architecture, cloud solution procurements, cloud vendor management, solution implementation, and user experience.

This Technical Bulletin provides information about adjustments the Children’s Bureau (CB) is making when setting and evaluating the attainment of case review measurement goals for Program Improvement Plans (PIPs). The need for training continues across child welfare, but students and new caseworkers still can benefit from practicing the skills required for casework after their classroom sessions have ended. This episode discusses a virtual reality-based home visiting training currently being used by the university's B.S.W. students — Virtual Home Simulation (VHS) — which was developed by the University of Utah College of Social Work in partnership with the university's games and applications lab. While other online trainings exist, the developers of the VHS training point to the following features that set it apart from other simulation-based trainings.
