This report provides preliminary estimates of AFCARS data for FY 2012. Preliminary reports of AFCARS data include data received by September 30 for the report period ending March 31 and by March 31 for the report period ending September 30.

This data brief summarizes changes in the size and racial and ethnic composition of the U.S. foster care population and provides new geographic detail.

This guide helps title IV-E agencies prepare for an Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) assessment review. It includes technical assistance and tools to conduct a self-assessment of a title IV-E agency’s data collection system and guidance for developing a system that supports AFCARS data collection.
