INFORMATION MEMORANDUM

IM-18-07

DATE: May 7, 2018

TO:  State IV-D Agencies

SUBJECT:  A Caseworker’s Guide to Processing Cases with Australia

ATTACHMENT:  Caseworker’s Guide to Processing Cases with Australia - 2018

The federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) develops Caseworker’s Guides to assist U.S. child support workers in processing cases with countries that are foreign reciprocating countries (FRCs), under section 459A of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 659a), but have not yet joined the Hague Child Support Convention.

The attached Caseworker’s Guide to Processing Cases with Australia - 2018 replaces case processing information on Australia published in 2003 (IM-03-07). Since we now have specific resources for all Hague Convention countries as well as country-specific guides for the remaining FRCs, we are superseding IM-03-07.

The Guide contains the following information:

Part A – Outgoing Child Support Cases from the U.S. to Australia

Part B – Incoming Child Support Cases from Australia to the U.S.

Part C – Federal-level Reciprocity Agreement between the U.S. and Australia

SUPERSEDES: IM-03-07: A Caseworker’s Guide for Cases with Foreign Reciprocating Countries

INQUIRIES: Please contact your OCSE Regional Office or e-mail ocseinternational@acf.hhs.gov if you have any questions.
