RE: IRS Safeguard Review Concerns

Dear Colleague:

Recently, several states have contacted the Federal Office of Child Support Enforcement (OCSE) with issues regarding their Internal Revenue Service (IRS) safeguard reviews. States have voiced concerns that findings in these reviews might lead to a termination of IRS access for the states in question. While OCSE and IRS have been pursuing a legislative resolution to the issues which have precipitated the adverse findings, such legislation has not yet passed. In the meantime, OCSE continues to work with the IRS and has asked IRS for assurance that access would not be affected at this time. Enclosed is a letter from the IRS that indicates no suspension actions are being contemplated.

I will keep you informed as OCSE’s discussions with the IRS proceed. [Contact information is obsolete]

Sincerely,

Sherri Z. Heller, Ed.D.
Commissioner
Office of Child Support Enforcement
