Annually during the month of October, advocates, survivors, their loved ones, and communities come together to mourn those whose lives have been lost to domestic violence; celebrate the accomplishments to end and prevent further violence; and connect with others in the movement to end domestic violence. This year also marks the 35th Anniversary of the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), the first Federal commitment to creating a pathway to safety for survivors of domestic violence and their children. This tip sheet provides information on events, activities, and resources organized by FYSB-funded national training and technical assistance resource centers to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This resource is a calendar of events funded by the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) Program in the Family and Youth Services Bureau during October to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) 2018. Events include webinars, Facebook chats, in-person programs, and other activities. For 2018, the #1Thing DVAM Campaign focuses on actions everyone can take to reduce domestic violence and bring awareness to the issue.
