The Department of Education recently issued a letter that addresses the new foster care provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) which go into effect on December 10, 2016.

This final rule is being issued under the authority granted to the Secretary of Health and Human Services by the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), 42 U.S.C. 10404(a)(4), as most recently amended by the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment (CAPTA) Reauthorization Act of 2010 (Pub. L. 111—320).

The Family Violence Prevention and Services Act reauthorizes the Family Violence Prevention and Services Program through September 2018.
