This two-page resource provides 10 tips for creating a strong grant application whether for funding from the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) or another agency or organization. For FYSB grants, help is available from the grant program's training and technical assistance provider. FYSB can also provide a copy of the program's previous application so grant writers can benefit from reviewers' comments and feedback.

Briefly, the 10 tips are:

  1. Do your homework.
  2. Follow directions.
  3. Assemble a grant-writing team.
  4. Start fresh.
  5. State the facts.
  6. Tie it all together.
  7. Make it visual.
  8. Make sure your financial statements are sound.
  9. Proofread, please!
  10. Don't rush.

Also included are four practices that can raise programs' applications above the rest of the crowd.
