Dear Colleague Letter
Re: Generation Indigenous (Gen-I) Initiative Youth Gatherings
Date: April 25, 2016
Dear Colleagues:
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell issued a recent letter (attached) referencing President Obama’s launch of the Generation Indigenous (Gen-I) Initiative. This initiative takes a comprehensive, culturally appropriate approach to ensure all young Native people can reach their full potential.
In support of this effort, HHS and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) have initiated a series of events that will focus on youth leadership, skill building, and employment opportunities. As noted in Secretary Burwell’s letter, the Generation Indigenous Youth Gatherings are being held in various States in the months of April and May 2016. While some events have already been held, we would like to encourage you to register to take part in the remaining sessions.
Albuquerque, New Mexico April 28, 2016
Seattle, Washington May 14, 2016
Anchorage, Alaska May 26, 2016
Please see the attached document for registration information.
Thank you for your continued partnership and cooperation as we work to improve the lives of young Native Americans.
Sincerely,
Jeannie L. Chaffin Seth Hassett
