Dear Colleagues,

America’s PrepareAthon!—the Administration’s seasonal campaign to build community-level preparedness action—has designated this week, May 23—27, as Extreme Heat Week . The impacts of extreme heat directly affect health and can cause widespread suffering and fatalities. There were more than 7,400 heat-related deaths in the United States between 1999 and 2010.

As part of this campaign, the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Office of Community Services (OCS), Division of Energy Assistance (DEA) is hosting a webinar titled, “Preparing for Extreme Heat Events: What Energy Assistance Programs and Communities Can Do,” on Wed, May 25, 2016, from 3:30-5pm Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) featuring Jonathan White from ACF and Victoria Ludwig from the Environmental Protection Agency.

A collection of resources is attached as well as an invitation for a webinar briefing co-sponsored by the National Security Council and the Office of Science and Technology Policy on increasing community preparedness to extreme heat. The White House Webinar on Building Community Preparedness to Extreme Heat will take place on May 26, 2016, from 2:00PM to 3:30PM EDT and can be accessed through: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4711595715548871170
