This focus report provides an overview of the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) expenditures for child protective services (CPS). The report includes the number of CPS recipients for Federal fiscal year (FY) 2014 and usage trends of SSBG expenditures for CPS for 6 years. States have substantial discretion in the use of SSBG funds and may determine what services to provide, who is eligible to receive services, and how funds are applied. States may use SSBG funds to support the provision of CPS.

This focus reports presents expenditure and recipient data reported in the Social Services Block (SSBG) High Level Service Area of Vulnerable and Elderly Adults in federal fiscal year (FY) 2016.

The purpose of this message is to provide a robust overview of the following SSBG Focus Reports (Day Care-Children, Vulnerable and Elderly Adults, and Child Welfare/Youth at Risk for Fiscal Year (FY) 2016.

This focus report provides an analysis of the Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) expenditures for and recipients of the SSBG High Level Service Area (HLSA) of Child Welfare/Youth at Risk in federal fiscal year (FY) 2015. These services seek to improve the health, wellbeing, and permanency of children, youth, and their families.

This resource contains information about the Social Services Block Grant Program in 2017.

The federal government provides funding to states specifically for the provision of child care through the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF).

 

This focus report will examine states’ use of allowable transfers of funds from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) block grant to their Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) programs.

The TANF block grant law provides that states may transfer up to 10 percent of their TANF grant to the SSBG.1 Funds transferred from TANF to SSBG are to be used only for programs or services to children or their families whose income is less than 200 percent of the income poverty guideline applicable to a family of the size involved (as defined and revised annually by the Office of Management and Budget).

This focus report provides a summary of States’ Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) expenditures for adult protective services (APS) in 2013.  The report also provides an overview of trends in APS usage patterns during the last five years. Protective services are provided in cases of injury due to: family violence or abuse by caregivers; failure of caregivers to provide adequate food, clothing, shelter, or medical care; and financial exploitation by family, friends, fiduciaries, or caregivers.
