The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) supports projects that:

  • Lessen poverty in communities
  • Address the needs of low-income individuals including the homeless, migrants and the elderly
  • Provide services and activities addressing employment, education, better use of available income, housing, nutrition, emergency services and/or health.

Services Available

The following housing services are examples of services provided by CSBG- funded community organizations:

  • Homeownership counseling and loan assistance;
  • Counseling and advocacy about landlord/tenant relations and fair housing concerns;
  • Assistance in location affordable housing and applying for rent subsidies and other housing assistance;
  • Transitional shelters and services for the homeless;
  • Support for management of group homes; and/or
  • Rural housing and infrastructure development.

CSBG funds are not awarded directly to individuals.
