The Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) supports projects that:

  • Lessen poverty in communities
  • Address the needs of low-income individuals including the homeless, migrants and the elderly
  • Provide services and activities addressing employment, education, better use of available income, housing, nutrition, emergency services and/or health.

Services Available

The following education services are examples of services provided by CSBG- funded community organizations:

  • Adult education, including courses in English as a Second Language (ESL) and General Education Development (GED) preparation;
  • Child care classes, providing both child development instruction and support for working parents or home child care providers;
  • Alternative opportunities for school dropouts and those at risk of dropping out;
  • Scholarships for college of technical school;
  • Guidance about adult education opportunities in the community;
  • Programs to enhance academic achievement of students in grades K-12; and/or
  • Other specialized adult employment training.

CSBG funds are not awarded directly to individuals.
