December 23, 2011
Subject: Release of LIHEAP funds
Attachments: 2012 Tribal Awards-CR
Dear Colleagues:
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has made an additional $845 million in LIHEAP block grants available under the current FY 2012 continuing resolution (CR) that expires on December 23.
The $845 million is in addition to the $1.7 billion released in October and provides LIHEAP grantees with a total of $2.581 billion in LIHEAP block funds for FY 2012. The overall total of $2.581 billion is equal to 75% of the full year funding that would be available to states, tribes and territories under the FY 2012 House and Senate full year Conference Agreement.
Tribes are receiving an additional award based on the additional funds being released this week. Tribes should expect to see grant award monies early next week, by 12/26, or 12/27. See attached table. We are still awaiting a final appropriation for FY 2012. When more funds become available, they will be awarded as part of the second quarter release on or about January 3, 2012.
The OCS/Division of Energy Assistance staff will fax or scan grant award letters to tribes next week when the grant awards are finalized.
