Jay was struggling to support himself while working in the food service industry. He joined the Health Careers NW program in March 2018. He began certified nursing assistant (CNA) training in May 2018 and completed his coursework and clinicals in June 2018. Jay was accepted into Linfield University’s registered nursing (RN) program, graduated, and was licensed in January 2021. He is employed as of February 2021.

Jacquitra is a single mother of a special needs eight-year old son working as a teacher’s assistant. She applied to Project HOPE: Healthcare Occupations Preparation for Employment and began a five-week bootcamp training in January 2018. After completing bootcamp, Jacquitra began Phlebotomy training in May 2018. She finished the program in July 2018, received her national certification in August 2018, and obtained employment shortly after.

Zoe is married with children and was unable to able to afford healthcare training. She started with the Health Career Opportunities with Personalized Educational Supports (HOPES) program in 2015 and completed a behavioral health certification. After working in behavioral health for a few years, Zoe decided to re-enroll in a medical assistant (MA) program in July 2020. She took a short break but is due to complete her MA training in Fall 2021 and is currently employed.

Frank is a proud Alaskan Native and military veteran. He was accepted into the CITC Health Professions Opportunity Program (HPOG) in March 2019 and started medical office assistant (MOA) training. He completed training in November 2020, passed the National Healthcareer Association certification exam, and is currently employed.

Fadumo grew up in Somalia with her mother and five siblings. She enrolled into the Healthcare Workforce for the Future (HWF) program in April 2017. After taking a short break during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she completed her respiratory therapist (RT) training in June 2020.

Caiyi is a Chinese immigrant who struggled with finding employment due to the language barrier. A friend told her about the VOATX Health Profession Opportunity Grant (HPOG) program in Summer 2020 and she was accepted later that Fall. Caiyi completed her registered nursing (RN) training in May 2021 and passed her certification exam. She accepted a job offer right after graduation and is currently employed.

Tammy is a wife and mother of four children who worked as a certified nurse aide. She applied to the GoodCare Career Pathways Program in 2017 and completed medication aide classes as a way to earn more money. Tammy returned to HPOG in 2018 to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and completed training in 2019. She started working that same year and obtained higher-paying employment in 2021.

Shawnesha is a single mother and grandmother of three, who always knew she wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. She applied to the Pathway to Success in Healthcare program in 2016 and began the registered nursing program during the fall of that year. She completed training in December 2020, obtained employment in May 2021, and passed the Pennsylvania nursing boards in June 2021.
