Workshops build skills and knowledge for graduates of the Health CareeRx Academy.

The residents of Connecticut are growing older. Many chose to live their final days in the comfort of their own home. The Health CareeRx Academy at The WorkPlace offers workshops to educate program participants on proper care for aging communities.

Uriah Keith faced many challenges growing up in Anchorage, Alaska. With his young son in mind, he decided to change his life for the better. After receiving recovery assistance from Cook Inlet Tribal Council (CITC), and with the support and training provided by their HPOG program, he is giving back to community members and enjoying a life of success and well-being.

In the spring of 2017, the city of Detroit Mayor’s Office launched “Detroit at Work,” with the goal of placing 240 Detroit City residents in entry-level healthcare positions. Three local hospitals committed to the Mayor’s employment initiative: Detroit Medical Center, St. Johns Providence, and Henry Ford Health Systems. Furthermore, a network of partnerships and support formed to help meet this goal.

Volunteers of America Michigan (VOAMI) HPOG is an integral piece of this team. VOAMI HPOG brings skills training, healthcare training, and job placement to Detroit at Work. City resources, including the City of Detroit Employment Offices and the Oakland University School of Nursing Continuing Education (OUSNCE), joined forces with VOAMI to raise program awareness, enroll students, and expand employment opportunities. The City of Detroit Employment Offices aided in recruitment, and OUSNCE stepped in to provide training.

A unique team-staffing model guides HPOG participants along career pathways in King County, Washington.

Health Workforce for the Future (HWF) Project serves the diverse population of Seattle and surrounding King County. HWF helps program participants maneuver complex healthcare career pathways. Support services ensure that every participant excels, but every person has different needs. HWF uses a team of Navigators to provide that support. The design of the program evolved with this in mind.

St. Louis residents have the opportunity to enter a career in the healthcare field. This is thanks to the Missouri Healthcare Industry Training and Education (HITE) program . The program helps low-income individuals improve self-sufficiency by offering healthcare training and support. To reach higher enrollment and post-training employment objectives, HITE enlisted the help of a few partners.

Living in the poorest county in New York State, residents of the Bronx in New York City face significant challenges. In 2017, the Bronx was deemed the unhealthiest county in the state for the eighth year in a row. Unemployment rates are almost 50 percent higher than state average. Almost half of the children in the borough live in poverty.

Montefiore Health Profession Opportunity Grant (HPOG) program is fighting these statistics by building healthier neighborhoods through a commitment to community health. The program creates opportunities for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and other low-income individuals by offering workforce skills development in the healthcare field.
