The goal behind every HPOG program is to drive independence.

To provide the tools needed for long-term self-sufficiency, Action for a Better Community Inc., (ABC) Visit disclaimer page offers supportive services that focus on helping participants achieve the minimum reading and math proficiencies necessary to pass state level healthcare exams.

It became clear that many participants were unable to pass certification exams after training. So ABC customized its employment services to assist with this personal skill development. Now, participants without a High School Equivalent Certificate receive ABC’s education services. Once their reading and math levels are determined, participants are connected to the resources that will help them succeed in furthering their education and training. This can include assistance in preparing for standardized tests like the Test Accessing Secondary Completion (TASC) and Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). As a certified testing site, ABC is also able to offer participants a familiar and safe environment in which to complete their state testing.

Besides test prep, ABC’s HPOG students have access to support services offered by the organization to fill community needs. These include tax assistance and low cost equipment necessary for training. These self-sufficiency services focus on removing employment barriers. They also provide the tools needed to embark on a healthcare career pathway.

Training and test prep services offered at ABC have reduced the number of individuals who have to re-test. They have increased the number of participants who earn their high school equivalency in preparation for employment and career advancement in the healthcare field.
