Serving the healthcare community through online learning yields positive results.

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys operates the GoodCare Career Pathways Program Visit disclaimer page . This program provides training to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients and other low-income individuals to help them overcome employment barriers, setting participants on a career pathway in the healthcare field.

Layoffs and job loss due to COVID-19 affected many Virginia counties. There was a high demand for healthcare professionals, but the pandemic limited access to training opportunities. To spread awareness about its program, GoodCare partnered with the county Department of Social Services (DSS) offices to distribute program information.

With COVID-19 restrictions and shut-downs, GoodCare quickly pivoted their approach from in-person to virtual training. They implemented online guidelines for enrollment and serving participants. All new informational sessions for incoming program participants are now offered through Zoom. Tests and the foundational training curriculum are also administered virtually. The seamless online transition empowered GoodCare to continuously serve their attendees without compromising the learning process or their target goals. The transition to online learning also allowed GoodCare to extend opportunities to students who would not normally have access to training.

By pivoting to provide virtual services, GoodCare successfully places participants in healthcare positions and uplifts their community.
