A woman’s desire for a better quality of life and care for her children inspires her to press on.
Clarys was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. She immigrated to the United States in 1994, and in 2004, Clarys became a US citizen.
Clarys’ three children were her inspiration for her goals. She wanted a career that would allow her to be a role model and support them. She was passionate about helping others and wanted a meaningful and challenging avenue for emotional growth. These factors led her to pursue home health aide training.
In 2016, Clarys learned about the Montefiore Medical Center Health Profession Opportunity Grant Project Visit disclaimer page . At the time, she was pursuing a home health aide training course at Allen Health Care. Clarys enthusiastically started the application process and was overjoyed when she was accepted into the HPOG program.
During her training, Montefiore HPOG and her vocational counselor supported Clarys. After completing the home health aide training at Allen Health Care in 2019, Clarys decided to postpone employment due to pregnancy.
Making the most of her time, Clarys pursued her High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE) during her pregnancy. After the birth of her son, Clarys started working part time in a medical office. Her job helped her gain experience in the field while providing for her family. From there, Clarys decided to pursue advanced training. Her HPOG counselor referred her to Montefiore’s HPOG partner, ACS Pro Training Center in the Bronx. There, she enrolled in the certified nursing assistant (CNA) training program.
Upon completion, Clarys successfully passed her state boards and obtained her CNA license in January 2019. Throughout the entire process, Clarys took advantage of all the support services Montefiore HPOG offers. Most importantly, she maintained open communication with her vocational counselor, which facilitated her progress. Clarys plans to work full time as a CNA.
“HPOG has had a major impact in all my accomplishments; the team has been very supportive and has pushed me to reach my highest potential.”
