Opening remarks of the conference on Strengthening Partnerships for Healthy, Climate Resilient, and Thriving Communities.

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health , (OASH) and the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) held a two-afternoon listening session called “Strengthening Partnerships for Healthy, Climate Resilient, and Thriving Communities”.

  • Representatives from the Office of Human Services Emergency Preparedness and Response (ACF/OHSEPR), the Office of Climate Change and Health Equity (OASH/OCCHE), the Office of Regional Health Operations (OASH/ORHO), and the Division of Human Services Policy (OASH/HSP) collaborated on several initiatives in response to Executive Order 12898, EO 14008, and EO 13045, and sponsored this event.
  • This partnership focused on raising awareness across health and human services sectors of the nexus between environmental justice, climate change, and climate disaster; developing cross-industry connections to facilitate the transfer of valuable knowledge, ideas, and solutions-based resources; and leveraging existing programs and resources to address these concerns.
  • In the spring of 2023, HHS hosted several community conversations across the country to learn from communities directly affected by severe weather or community environmental hazards.
  • This convening served as a space to share and discuss key learnings from those engagements, and identify interdisciplinary partnership opportunities to engage and address the resonant themes from those discussions.

Two national events:

  • Aug. 2: For all health and human service stakeholders including government, non-government, philanthropic, and academic communities
  • Aug. 3: For Federal staff only
